Oil of high content limiting precise differential ultraviolet Spectropho-tometry with two reference solutions has been developed for the determination of the high concentrations of oil present in the industrial wasteweter containing phenols. Dichloromethane was used as the solvent and selected optimal extraction conditions were selected and adopted. The wave length, λmax,used for the determination was 272nm, the concentrations, C1 and C2 of the reference oil were about 45mg·l-1 and 350mg·l-1, respectively, and the range of work curves was 45-300mg·l-1. The method has a relative standard devktion of less than 4% (n=8) with a recovery ratio of higher than 95%. The accuracy of the method is 10 times as high as that of common ultraviolet spectrophotometry.

Basied on the four - ball test results of six kinds of Ⅲ D reference oils, a new four - ball test method was developed that correlated with the ⅢD sequence on crankcase oil antiwear characteristics
