The faceted fixed mirror solar concentrator is a novel solar energy utilization device which was developed in the last few years. Compared with the generel tracking concentrator, it has many advantags; its mirror surface is fixed, and the supporting frame of the mirror surface can be made of genereal architectural materials such as cement, sand, brick and steel which can thus be selected to suit measures to local conditions. And, when the incident ray is variable, it needs only change the location of the absorber...

The faceted fixed mirror solar concentrator is a novel solar energy utilization device which was developed in the last few years. Compared with the generel tracking concentrator, it has many advantags; its mirror surface is fixed, and the supporting frame of the mirror surface can be made of genereal architectural materials such as cement, sand, brick and steel which can thus be selected to suit measures to local conditions. And, when the incident ray is variable, it needs only change the location of the absorber in order to receive the reflected rays from the mirror. Especially in the case when its long axis is laid in the westeastern orientation, the tracking mechanism of the absorber can be made very simple. So it has the benefit of low cost and easy to operate and maintain. Since it was developed, FMSC has been brought to the attention of many countries in the world.This paper makes a theoretical analysis of its basic optic principle; discusses the design methed; obtained a n—θ chart; and gives a detailed description of the use by this chart which can greatly reduce the calculation work in designing. It can also be of help to the further study of FMSC.
