Weihe River is one of the tributaries flowing into the Sanmenxia Reservoir. The Lower reach of the Weihe River is a meandering alluvial river with very flat slope. Weihe River is one of the tributaries flowing into the Sanmenxia Reservoir. The Lower reach of the Weihe River is a meandering alluvial river with very flat slope. It was in a state of quasi equilibrium in a long term.The confluence of the Weihe River with the main stream of Yellow River is at Tongguan, 113 km upstream from the dam site. The stage at Tongguan may be considered as a local base level of the lower Weihe River.Since the impoundment of the Reservoir,backwater deposits extended upstream in a rapid rate as a result of the raise of the bed elevation of Tongguan. After the change of the mode of reservoir operation and the subse quent reconstruction of the outlet facilities of the dam, the bed elevation of Tongguan had lowered to some extent. The Weihe River had undergone selfadjustment according to the variation of the bed elevation of Tongguan and the incoming water and sediment flow. L rge floods with hyperconce ntration of sediment took an active part in the flushing of the backwater de-Posits. However,serious deposition have been observed during small flood with hyperconcentration of sediment. In the Process of adjustment, the terminal of backwater deposits of the main channel travelled to and fro in both directins and that of the flood plain extended upstream gradually. The compositions of the bed material became finer and the channel cross section became narrower and deeper. After many years of adjustment the sediment transport and flood concarrying capacity have recovered to a state prior to the construction of the dam.The development of backwater deposits in both main channel anb the flood plain are gradually becoming stabilized.

Variables affecting the upstream extension of sedimentation in the reservoir are rather complicated. Generally, it is controlled by the rising of the base level immediately above the dam, the gradient of the original channel, the variation of the discharge and the sediment coming into the reservoir and the operation of the reservoir, in addition to the above variables, the upstream extension of sedimentation in San-Men-Xia Reservoir is due to its particular geographic conditions. Variables affecting the upstream extension of sedimentation in the reservoir are rather complicated. Generally, it is controlled by the rising of the base level immediately above the dam, the gradient of the original channel, the variation of the discharge and the sediment coming into the reservoir and the operation of the reservoir, in addition to the above variables, the upstream extension of sedimentation in San-Men-Xia Reservoir is due to its particular geographic conditions. San-Men-Xia Reservoir is situated at the confluence of the Yellow River, Luo He River and wei River, with Tqng-Guan as its natural narrow gap.After the construction of San-Men-Xia Reservoir, the river bed at Tong-Guan has been raised by 4-5M, which acts as a local base level for the main river and the tributaries above it.As the river bed is raised due to the sedimentation and the backwater of the Yellow River is increased, a sand bar is formed at the mouth of Wei-He River, causing the backwate in the channel to rise and the backward sedimentation from the lower part to the upper part to take place in the lower Wei-He River,Bei-Lao-He River and the Northern Trunk of the Yellow River.This paper primarily deals with the upstream extension of sedimentation in San-Men-Xia Reservoir by using geomorphological approach. Using the river sediment method and parabolic longitudinal profile method, it has been determined that the sedimentation end in the lower wei-He River is located near the Wei Yu 21-22 cross-sections,and a comprehensive prediction has been made.It has been proved that the backward sedimentation will not involve Xi-An in the present operating mode of the reservoir.lt has been determined in the same way that the sedimentation end in the Bei Lai He River is near Luo Yu 17-18 cross-sections and the sedimentation end in the Northern Trunk of the Yellow River is near Huang Yu 59 cross-section.This conclusion coincides with that drawn by water conservancy organizations using the cross-section method, method of water table under the same dischargs and volume method, since the the wei Yu 21-22 cross-sections, Luo Yu 17-18 cross-section and Huang Yu 59 cross-section in the Northern trunk are situated at the break of their longitudinal profile respectively, further upstream extension of the sedimentation end will be difficult

本文主要用地貌学的方法来研究三门峡水库淤积上延的问题。运用河床沉积物法和纵剖面抛物线法,确定了渭河下游淤积末端的位置在渭汗21-22断面附近,并作了综合性预估;实践证明,在目前水库运用方式下不会影响西安。用同样的方法还确定了北洛河的淤积末端在洛淤17-18断面附近,北干流的末端在黄淤59断面附近,这与水利部门用断面法、同流量水位和体积法所得的结论基本一致。由于洛淤17-18断面和北干流黄淤59断面附近正处于纵剖面的坡折,所以淤积末端再继续上延比较困难。

By plotting sediment load, Qs against water discharge, Q, it was found out that all the data points could be divided into 3 belts which represent stable braided river pattern, meandering river pattern and wandering river pattern, respectively. It is notable that all the points representing the Huaihe River and its tributaries are situated within the meandering river pattern belt. The Huaihe River's exponent b in Qs-Qb relation is rather large, meaning that its water discharge-sediment load relation is characterized by high water associated by heavy sediment load and low water associated by low sediment load. This gives a large height difference between floodplain surface and bed bottom, which is conducive to the formation of meanders.2.Landform units which the rivers pass through. The Huaihe River and its many tributaries are situated in the southeast marginal zone of the Yellow River alluvial fan. This location makes them a very low valley slope and therefore a very low energy expenditure per unit length of river valley, which tends to the formation of meanders.3.Resistivity of boundary materials to erosion. Due to the spatial differentiation of depositional process on the Yellow River alluvial fan, the clay content in the bank materials of the Huaihe River and its tributaries is rather high, and the relative thickness of fine-grained upper part of the double layered bank is large, leading to a strong resistivity of river bank to erosion, which is favourable to meander development.4.Influence of the Hongzhehu Lake as a local base level. Due to the long-term human activities in history, this lake took shape and expanded sharply. The continuous rise of the lake's water stage means a rise of local base level. Accordingly, the river channel gradient became gentler, and more fine sediment such as silt and clay could be deposited in the channel boundary, making the river channel more sinuous.In addition, based on the data of the Huaihe River and its tributaries, meandering river channel pattern has been classified into 3 sub-patterns, their formation conditions being discussed in the paper.

淮河干支流弯曲河型十分发育.本文从水沙条件、地貌部位、河岸结构及组成物质、局部基准面的控制作用等方面,对于淮河弯曲河型的成因进行了初步探讨.同时还根据演变动态的不同将弯曲河型趔分为三个亚型,并讨论了各亚型的形成条件.
