Tests were conducted to evaluate the ovicidal activities of three new insecticides, Fenvalerate (alpha-cyano-m-phenoxybenzyl alpha-isopropyl-p-chlorphenylacetate), Tria-zophos (l-phenyl-3-(0-diethylthionophosphoryl)-l, 2, 4, triazol), and Quinalphos (0, 0-diethyl-0-(quinoxalinyl-2)-thionophosphate), to eight species of arthropods in the laboratory during 1980-1981. Tests were conducted to evaluate the ovicidal activities of three new insecticides, Fenvalerate (alpha-cyano-m-phenoxybenzyl alpha-isopropyl-p-chlorphenylacetate), Tria-zophos (l-phenyl-3-(0-diethylthionophosphoryl)-l, 2, 4, triazol), and Quinalphos (0, 0-diethyl-0-(quinoxalinyl-2)-thionophosphate), to eight species of arthropods in the laboratory during 1980-1981. Dipterex, Malathion, and Chlordimeform were used as the respective standards. Eggs were dipped in dilutions for 5 seconds, then transferred to petri dishes and incubated at a suitable temperature. The percentages of eggs that failed to hatch were counted.Tests showed that Triazophos and Quinalphos were highly toxic to the eggs of Mythimna separata, Ostrinia nubilalis, Chilo suppressalis, Heliothis armigera and Pieris rapae, while Penvalerate was less toxic to the eggs of some lepidopterous insects than Triazophos and Quinalphos. Triazophos was most toxic to the eggs of Nephotettix cineticeps and Tetrcmychus cinnabarinus among the three toxicants, but Fenvalerate was least toxic to these species.Fenvalerate in low concentration was comparatively safe to the eggs of Leis axy-ridis, a main predator to aphids, whereas Triazophos and Quinalphos were hazardous severely.At the 0.04% concentration, the ovicidal activity of Fenvalerate to the eggs of N. cineticeps was dependent on the developmental stage of eggs at the time of treatment. Older eggs were more susceptible to the toxicants. The same trend occurred, but less apparently in the Quinalphos-treated eggs.Our observations of temperature effect show that Triazophos and Quinalphos have positive temperature coefficients against the eggs of M. separata, and Fenvalerate has also positive coefficieut. against the eggs and larvae of M. separata.

Thirteen insecticides including pyrethroids, organophosphates, microbial preparation and their mixture were tested for their contact toxicity to three species of hymenopterous parasi-toid adults in the laboratory. It is found that the rate of knock-down by pyrethroids to Ptero-malus puparum from Pieris rapae is more rapid than organophosphates in general though the former have lower toxicity than the latter. In the pyrethroids- permethrin and cypermethrin display higher toxicity than fenvalerate and 3-phenoxybenzyl-(4-chlorophenyl)...

Thirteen insecticides including pyrethroids, organophosphates, microbial preparation and their mixture were tested for their contact toxicity to three species of hymenopterous parasi-toid adults in the laboratory. It is found that the rate of knock-down by pyrethroids to Ptero-malus puparum from Pieris rapae is more rapid than organophosphates in general though the former have lower toxicity than the latter. In the pyrethroids- permethrin and cypermethrin display higher toxicity than fenvalerate and 3-phenoxybenzyl-(4-chlorophenyl) iso-valerate. Dimethoate, omethoate, methamidophos, malathion, trichlorphon, triazophos, and Liuyangmycin plus dimethoate are more toxic to both P. puparum and Apameles glomeratus while trichlorphon and acephate are less toxic than other organophosphates tested. The microbial preparation Liuyangmycin. derived from a soil microorganism has no toxicity to P. puparum per se, but its combination with dimethoate would display higher toxicity to the parasitoids when the latter used alone. Although the knock-down rate of fenvalerate. to A. glomeratus is more rapid than triazophos, fenvalerate has lower toxicity. The toxicity of fenvalerate and 3-phenoxy-benzyl-(4-chlorophenyl) iso-valerate to Tetrastichus sp. is lower than triazophos. To sum up, the order of toxicity to P. puparum at 4.35×10-4mg/cm2 under the experimental conditions is: omethoate > malachion ≈methamidophos > trichlorphon≈ acephate > cypermethrin ≈ permethrin > 3-phenoxybenzyl-(4-chlorophenyl) iso-valerate; the order of knock-down rate is: malathion> cypermethrin > permethrin > 3-phenoxybenzyl-(4-chlrophenyl) iso-valerate > trichlorphon ≈ome-thoate> methamidophos > acephate. It is noted that some prostrate parasitoids from contact with pyrethoids could revive. The potential use of the insecticides in integrated pest management is discussed.
