There are a Se_rich area and a Se_poor area in Enshi, Hubei province, China. Human selenosis and KD cases were reported in the Se_rich area and in the Se_poor area respectively. Five Se_rich rock formations exist in the Se_rich area, but selenosis cases were only found in the areas where the Upper Maokou Formation(P 1 m ) and Wujiaping Formation(P 2 w ) of the Permian system emerge. The siliceous and carbonaceous shales of Permian system have high selenium content swith an average of 247.72×10 -6 , carbon silicalite is less abundant averaging 52.4×10 -6 , and siliceous dolomite has the lowest selenium content (3.13×10 -6 ). The selenium decreasing along with the above_mentioned various rocks is directly influenced by the decreasing of their organic carbon. In the Se_poor area, purple sandstone and mudstone, which are lack of the organic carbon material collecting selenium, have a very low selenium content. The large or small exposure areas of both Se_rich and Se_poor soils,are controlled by a comperehensive result of structure, lithologic characters and slope of landform and so on. Se_rich rocks are located in either the flanks or synclinal core. If the dip angles of rock formations are smaller and consistent with slope of landform, the exposed area of the rock will be large and the Se_rich soil derived from the rock will influence widely. If the Se_rich rock formations in flanks of compression folds have steep dip angles and narrow area of outcrop, the distribution of the soil derived from the rock is controlled by the nature and intense of the transporting media and the landscope.

Based on the lithologic character, the sequence and the sediment features of the bedrocks which distribution in the typical selenosis (selenium poisoning) region in Naore Village in South Qinling Mountain, Ziyang County, Shaanxi Province, the bedrock in there is the lower part of Lujiaping Formation, and may correspond to the lower part of black shale of Qiongzhusi Formation-Early Cambrian in Yunnan Province and Niutitang Formation of Early Cambrian in Guizhou Province, South China. The bedrock of lower Cambrian in there is more than 40 meters thick of black carbonaceous siliceous slate and volcanic tuff, which selenium content is about 32 mg/kg on the average, it is the highest of all strata and rocks in south Qinling Mountain. The bedrock of the farming field, which soil has the selenium content of 16-36 mg/kg, just is this black carbonaceous siliceous slate and volcanic tuff of lower part of Lujiaping Formation of Lower Cambrian.

本文通过对南秦岭大巴山的紫阳县典型硒中毒区双安乡闹热村所在地及邻区分布的基岩的岩石类型、岩相和层序等进行研究和分析,发现紫阳县双安乡闹热村硒中毒区出露的地层主要为晚震旦世和早寒武世鲁家坪组下部厚约40余米的富硒高硫黄铁矿化黑色碳质硅质板岩和黄铁矿化火山凝灰岩,该层位可以和云南下寒武统筇竹寺组下部和贵州牛蹄塘组下部的地层对比。该层岩石含硒量为10~56mg/kg,平均为32mg/kg左右,是大巴山地区所有地层和岩石中含硒量最高的。该硒中毒区主要几块高硒田块(土壤含硒量为16~36mg/kg)下部分布的就是这套高硒的早寒武世黄铁矿化黑色碳质硅质板岩和黄铁矿化火山凝灰岩地层。

Yutangba, where a sudden incidence of human selenosis occurred in 1963, is located in the northern part of Shuanghe community about 81 km SE of Enshi City, Hubei Province, China. In Yutangba, native Se extensively exists within Se-rich carbonaceous rocks, abandoned stone coal spoils and high-Se soils close to Se-rich carbonaceous strata. The distribution of native Se is parallel with Se-rich carbonaceous strata, with local circles or strips. Selenium particles become sparse from the Permian Maokou to Wujiaping formation along the dip. Native Se is probably the main dominance, and once formed, will be re-deposited in special sites such as near water table. However, when Se-rich stone coal removed from deep as a fuel or fertilizer, a large amount of native Se will be quickly oxidized again and transformed to soluble Se, which will be enriched in local food via water irrigation systems. So, Se-rich carbonaceous strata are a necessary condition for the incidence of Selenosis, and human cultivating manner and activities such as mining stone coal as a fuel or fertilizer will provide a sufficient condition for oxidation of elemental Se and its transportation. When soluble Se is accumulated to a certain extent and is under the suitable environmental condition, selenosis would occur again in some places of Enshi Prefecture.

自然硒在渔塘坝富硒碳质岩层及其附近的土壤、废弃“石煤”堆中广泛发育。渔塘坝自然硒的空间分布与富硒碳质岩层密切相关,其纵向分布整体与富硒碳质岩层的走向一致,局部地段呈片状或环带状;横向上沿着富硒碳质岩层的倾向方向,从二叠纪茅口组的碳质硅质岩层到吴家坪组的碳质页岩层,自然硒的发现由易到难。渔塘坝当前的地质环境有利于自然硒的形成和保存,且一旦在表生环境形成后将会在特殊的地段发生次生富集。但是,自然硒形成的地质环境一旦被人类活动打破,暴露于地表的自然硒也能够发生迅速的氧化而再次迁移,进入河流和当地居民的食物链系统。因此,渔塘坝及恩施地区广泛分布的富硒碳质岩层为硒中毒的发生提供了必要条件, 当荒地开垦或开挖“石煤”等人类活动为自然硒的氧化和迁移提供充分条件时,硒中毒的发生仍将不可避免。
