The mixed froth regime occurs most commonly within the normal vapor-liquid load range. Spray is likely to be promoted by a high vapor load, low liquid rate and low weir height. The distribution of spray-froth in the mixed froth regime is different at different places of the tray and varies with the liquid loads....

Longitudinal eddy diffusivities of liquid on sieve plates have been determined experimentally with fiber optic technique. The experiments were carried out in a rectangular simulator with air-water system. Two sieve plates were used: one with 5mm diameter holes and 7% free area of tray, the other 10mm and 9%. The weir heights were ranged from 10 to 50mm, as conventionally used nowadays.

According to these results, we came to the conclusions that if M.D. trays are used to replace the existing trays, they could increase column throughput, decrease energy consumption, improve the operation of a distillation column and guarantee the stability of the purity of desired products.
