Resistance of the tobacco army moth (TAM) (Prodenia litura )to pyrethroid and organophosphate insecticides (PYs and OPs)was monitored using immersion method in Shanghai region. The resistance ratios of LC50 from 1979 (or 1982 for OPs ) to 1994 were 43. 9, 90. 5, 171. 9, 29. 7, and 33. 6 for Cypermethrin, Deltamethrin, Fenvalerate, Dichlorvos and Acephate, respectively. The synergism experiments with Ph and Tpp showed that MFO and esterase played important roles in the insecticide resistance of TAM. No cross-resistance to IGRs is found in resistant TAMs, and also based on results of field experiments, Chlorfluazuron, Flufenoxuron, Dioxapyrrolomycin, Fipronil, Diafenthiuron, Thiodicarb and Polytrin are the high effective insecticides tested for control of these TAMs.

The tobacco aphid population in the tobacco field without application of pesticide were investigated during 1995~1996.The result showed that the population dynamics of the aphid presented a double peak curve and the red tobacco aphid was the major type of the second peak. Immersion test of sensitivity indicated that the green tobacco aphid was more sensitive than the red one to acephate,methomyl and endosulfom.
