A new working diagram of the theoretcal gain parameter for the gainbandwidth design of the super-wideband traveling wave tube is presented in this paper. It shows that the well-known 3 DB gain-bandwidth definition for ordinary helix traveliny wave tube can still be used for super-wide-band traveling wave tube. This new gain parameter working diagram can be used also for the gain-bondwidth design of ordinary helix traveling wave tube, and can fit the design into optimum working region.

Up to present, the design method for TWT is still those founded in the fifties and sixties of this century. In designing the TWT, it usually starts from selecting the value of γa in the range of 1.2-1.6, then calculates the related internal working parameters and the dimensions of the tube until the performances of the tube are satisfied. In such kind of design method, it can not bring the internal working parameters and the dimensions of the TWT in the suitable working region in the first run calculation. It...

Up to present, the design method for TWT is still those founded in the fifties and sixties of this century. In designing the TWT, it usually starts from selecting the value of γa in the range of 1.2-1.6, then calculates the related internal working parameters and the dimensions of the tube until the performances of the tube are satisfied. In such kind of design method, it can not bring the internal working parameters and the dimensions of the TWT in the suitable working region in the first run calculation. It needs the way of cut and try, and has some blindness in mind for a green hand designer.In this paper it gives out a new procedure in the design method. In this new design procedure, it starts from the small signal gain parameter working region diagram(2), selecting a suitable working region, setting out a working point at the center of the frequency band and obtain the working point value of b, QC and x1, and then calculating the dynamic working curve of the whole frequency band. From this dynamic working curve, we can see clearly on the region diagram whether the working region fixed is satisfied or not. And on this region diagram, we can judge whether there is any possibility of performance improvements of the TWT, and if necessary, see how to move the working point to a better region. Such kind of selection and fixing on the region diagram method makes the designer's mind clear and avoids blindness.This new procedure can be used for design of small signal gain TWT, of high efficiency and high power tube, and of super wide band TWT.

本文提出一个行波管设计的新步骤。从行波管小信号增益参数工作区域图着手,在图上首先选择合宜的工作区域和定出中心频率下的工作点,然后求出整个频带范围的动态工作曲线。这样就可在图上明显地看出所选行波管内部工作参数的情况是否合宜,并明确了为进一步提高管子性能是否还有潜力或应向什么方向移动工作点。这种按图索骥的步骤既可使心中有数,也避免了盲目性。该设计步骤不论是对小信号增益行波管或高效率行波管或是超宽频带行波管均适用。
