A data-flow-direction-based decomposition principle is introduced for the finite state machine in this paper. Some typical design methodologies derived from the decomposition principle are discussed also. These methodologies meet the requirement of faster data transferring and more complex control mechanism in current front-end VLSI design world. It should be a great reference for most of other types of designs.
