In tills system, a new frame format is introduced and it is more efficient than the frames in CCITT recommendations. There is no traditional pulse stuffing process at the multiplexing end, and the receiving timings are regenerated at the demultiplexing end where the phase-locked smoothing is no longer needed. It consists of a single board microcomputer and some general purpose interfaces. All necessary functions including I/o, frame synchronization, error-correcting, self-detecting and transmission quality evaluating in on-line mode are realized by software, In order to meet reliability and maintainability objectives, the multipleframe averaging technique for eliminating the inherent jitter, the double parity check coding for reducing the slip impairment and the step-type self-adapting for eliminating the wander accumulation are developed.

This letter is based on reports of some letters. First, thecarrier communication of optical frequency-division-multiplexing(OFDM)is compared simply with both modes of wave-division-multiplexing(WDM) and optical coherent communication. Then, OFDM is explainedin principle and its critical device——a fiber Fabry-Perot (FFP)tunabele filter for demultiplexing. Finally, the approach realized isdescribed by two experiment networks. The potential capacity and theprospect of wide application is directed.
