In Chinese sea-going ships such types of altitude and azimuth tables as tables 205 or H.O. 214 are now widely used for facilitating astronomical calculations. This is justified. But some ship officers go so far as to deny the use of any other method of computing altitudes and azimuths of heavenly bodies, including fundamental mathematical methods. Meanwhile, another school of thought exists, which is to promote the use of simplified tables similar to those as prevalent in the thirtieth. This has been reflected in recent relevant magazines and even in some articles published in this journal. In this article the author briefly points out that neither of them is right. He is of the opinion that simplified tables are obsolete and that such tables as giving the results directly must be generally used. On the other hand, the author points out and analyses the serious defects which arise from the use of the latter types of existing tables. In many cases, ship officers must resort to the use of some fundamental mathematical tables. Hence, it is pointed out that Table 205 must be recompiled and at the same time the necessity that ship officers must be highly competent with the use of at least one of the best mathematical methods is emphasized. The article then goes on discussing the requirements that new tables must and can fulfill. The main points are: 1. to make azimuth tables no longer necessary. 2. To make the finding of required data simpler and much speedier. In some cases and to some extent more accurate. 3. To make the compilation more reasonable. After explaining the measures to be taken to achieve the object set forth,the author finally suggests some concrete recompilation schemes.

The sample plots made through typical selection can express the growth situation of P.yunnanensis and P.armandii in these areas.Theauthors have made 493 sample plots of P.yunnanensis in central Yunnan,305 in Nanpanjian district and 252 of P.armandii in Guangyuan. This paper has elucidated not only the method of data collection and arrangement,but also the selection of the mathematical model and the drawing method of the full density curve,equal height curve,equal diameter curve, density control curve and the natural thinning curve by means of mathematical tables. The authors have tested the precisions of the diagrams in theory and prac- tice after making them.As a result,the oretieal precision is above 91% while the pratical one is above 85%.The result verifies that the diagrams adapt themselves to the above forest areas. The diagrams can be used in improvement cutting,forest inventory,growth forecasting and afforestation design.

云南松、华山松是西南地区的主要用材树种,为了研究林木密度与林木生长之间的关系,更好地经营管理好云南松林和华山松林,在引进国内外编图的理论和方法的基础上,我们编制了滇中地区,南盘江林区的云南松和广元林区的华山松人工林林分密度管理图。按典型选样法所设置的样地,基本能代表该地区云南松和华山松的生长情况,其中,滇中地区云南松林内设置样地493块,南盘江林区云南松林内设置样地305块,广元林区华山松林内设置样地252块。本文不仅在数据收集和整理方法上做了说明,而且以数表的形式说明了数学模型的选择以及最大密度线、等树高线、等直径线、等疏密度线和自然稀疏线的绘制方法。成图后进行了理论和适用精度检验,其理论精度均在91%以上,适用精度均在85%以上,证明本设计适用于该林区。该图可用于抚育间伐、资源清查、生长量预测及造林设计等。

If the data processing is performed by vector computer,the vector Fourier transform program is preferred;and fast Fourier transform may be chosen when the data processing is done by scalar computer. Tine-consuming operations relating to sine, cosine and evolution are finished by consulting mathematical tables. The trial computation proves the method feasible.

相移法适用于层状介质中局部大倾角构造的精确归位,但由于计算工作量大和不适应速度在横向上的变化,故该方法的广泛应用受到了限制。为了提高运算速度,本文采用了数据分块处理,处理后的数据按块方式进行磁盘存取,这就大大地提高了速度。若在向量机上运行时,可选用本机的向量傅氏变换程序;若在标量机上处理时,可选用运算速度较快的傅氏变换;对于费机时的正弦、余弦、开方计算采用了查表方法。实际试算表明,本文介绍的方法是可行的。
