Based on an optical configuration of EDFA with a ring feedback loop, the noise characterization of gain clamped EDFA was investigated experimentally. The results show that wide enough gain clamped dynamic region and low noise figure are achieved simultaneously if the operation point of the amplifier, i.e., the degree of feedback, is chosen properly when the pump and laser lights travel in the same direction as the signal.

    An all optical gain clamped and flattened fiber amplifier is reported. This technique is applicable for WDM networks with dynamic gain equalization of high gain, high power EDFAs. The dynamic range reaches 23 dB (-40 ̄-17 dBm) for a constant 33 dB gain, while the -1 dB gain bandwidth is 14 nm (1547 ̄1561 nm). The output signal power is 16 dBm.

    在光纤放大器内部同时建立增益谱锁定与平坦机制,研制出适合WDM网络应用的全光锁定高增益、大功率掺铒光纤放大器(EDFA)。在23dB输入功率动态范围(-40~-17dBm)内的增益箝制在33dB,对应总输入功率为-17dBm的输出光功率为16dBm,锁定的-1dB增益带宽为14nm(1547~1561nm)。
