The influence of pilot tone modulation on system bit error rate(BER) performance is investigated both theoretically and experimentally, while it is found that this influence is less than 0.5dB with a modulation index less than 5%. The application of modulation and demodulation panels in a 8 channel WDM system show that they can be used for channel counting, monitoring of channel optical power variation and EDFA gain clamping.

Using cross-phase modulation(XPM)based on linear optical amplifier(LOA),a simulation model of wavelength conversion was built with Simulink.This model took into account longitudinal variations of carrier-induced refractive index,phase modulation,the reflection at input and output face,amplified spontaneous emission noise and transverse gain clamping by vertical laser field(VCL).The gain clamping character of LOA was simulated.The extinction ratio,chirp and eye opening ratio of converted signal were calculated...

运用Simulink可视化仿真系统,建立基于线性光放大器(LOA)的交叉相位调制波长转换模型。模型考虑了纵向载流子密度变化引起的有源区折射率的改变、相位调制、端面反射、放大的自发辐射噪声和横向的垂直光场(VCL)的增益钳制作用。仿真了LOA的增益钳制特性,模拟计算了信号光功率和速率对转换后信号的消光比、啁啾和眼图张开度的影响。仿真结果表明,LOA具有增益钳制作用,对输入信号的扰动具有不敏感性。提出了合理控制输入信号光和探测光的功率,调整干涉仪两臂LOA偏置电流的强度,可在较高的信号速率下,获得良好的转换信号。
