AIM To evaluate the in vivo metabolism of C6 glioma by using high magnetic field spectrometer and evaluate the practical value of high resolution 1H NMR spectroscopy. METHODS Twenty Wister rats weighting 200 ~ 250 g were divided into two groups. Fifteen rats were implanted with C6 glioma spheroids in right caudate nucleus and the other five were used as controls. AIM To evaluate the in vivo metabolism of C6 glioma by using high magnetic field spectrometer and evaluate the practical value of high resolution 1H NMR spectroscopy. METHODS Twenty Wister rats weighting 200 ~ 250 g were divided into two groups. Fifteen rats were implanted with C6 glioma spheroids in right caudate nucleus and the other five were used as controls. Plain MR image and enhanced MRI were performed at intervals. The 1H NMR spectroscopy was performed 15~20 days after the implantation by using point resolved spectroscopy (PRESS) technique. RESULTS The NAA Cho, Cr+PCr, Glu+Gln, Lip and Lac were observed in normal rats. The NAA intensity decreased or disappeared in C6 glioma, NAA/Cho and NAA/Cr ratio decreased obviously ( P <0.01), Cho/Cr increased obviously ( P <0.05), and Lac signal intensity increased. CONCLUSION The high resolution spectrometer can clearly observe in vivo metabolism and biochemical changes of normal rats and C6 glioma spheroids. As the changes in NMR spectroscopy are earlier than those in MRI, high resolution 1H NMR spectroscopy can monitor early changes of tumor metabolism.

Purpose To validate the application of 2 [fluorine 18] fluoro 2 deoxy D glucose ( 18 F FDG) molecular coincidence detection (MCD) in tumor metabolism imaging and evaluate its clinical value. Methods Forty four primary cancer, 18 recurrent cancer and 10 patients with lung benign lesions histopathologically determined were studied using 18 F FDG MCD imaging. The findings from FDG MCD/AC imaging and histological diagnosis were analyzed. Results 18 F FDG imaging results in 59 of 62 patients with cancer showed one or more marked abnormally increasing uptake of FDG, 3 cases false negative. In 10 patients with lung benign lesions, 18 F FDG images of 7 cases showed no abnormal FDG accumulation, and 3 cases false positive. In this study, the sensitivity was 95.2%, the specificity was 70%, with positive predictive value of 95.5% and negative predictive value of 70%, and the diagnostic accuracy was 92.1%. Conclusion 18 F FDG MCD/AC imaging appeared to be useful in differentially diagnosing malignant from benign lesion, tumor staging and grading, predicting therapeutic efficacy and prognosis.

Positron emission tomography(PET) is a diagnostic imaging technique for the identification of biochemical and physiologic alterations in tumors. Use of PET performed with 18-fluoro-2-deoxy-2-fluor-D-glucose (FDG) may significantly improve the accuracy of tumor imaging. FDG PET based on identification of fundamental aspects of tumor metabolism has gained widespread acceptance in the initial staging of cancer,cancer recurrence, and monitoring the response to therapy. FDG uptake is proportional to the increasing metabolic rate of glucose demanding of tumor cell. The high sensitivity and high negative predictive value of FDG PET in most of malignant tumors enable this technique to play a greater role in guiding the tumor management at initial staging and follow-up.

正电子发射体层摄影 (PET)是一种可以证实肿瘤生化和生理改变的新的影像诊断技术 ,采用18F脱氧葡萄糖(18F DG)的PET明显提高了肿瘤影像诊断的正确性。PET在肿瘤初步分期、复发性肿瘤的处理以及对治疗效果的监测等方面已被广泛接受。PET与常规影像诊断方式不同 ,在用18F DG的PET中 ,肿瘤对18F DG的摄取与各种肿瘤细胞的代谢率有关 ,故18F DG的PET诊断主要根据肿瘤代谢的改变而作出 ,18F DGPET在大多数恶性肿瘤中的高敏感性和高阴性预测值使该项技术在对肿瘤处理、分期和随访中有较大价值。
