With the rapid development of Internet multimedia application technology, real time transmission of audio and video information over LANs and WANs is becoming a significant application, which makes it more and more important to ensure deterministic QoS of the networks. QoS routing finds network transmission paths that meet different QoS requirements of the applications. In general, it has two major objectives: one is to meet the QoS requirement for that application, while another is to optimize the utilization of network resources. Since QoS routing is one of the key technologies to implement network-supported QoS, it is becoming a hot spot in this area of research. This paper studies the definition of QoS routing and discusses some basic concepts and problems, then analyses several issues that are to be further studied.

Transporting Streaming media over the Internet becomes more and more important with the development of Internet multimedia applications.Transmission of video/audio has bandwidth,delay,and loss requirements.However,the current Internet does not offer any quality of service(QoS) guarantees.Thus,designing protocols and mechanisms for Internet Streaming media transmission poses many challenges.This article discusses the approaches to these challenges and presents solutions from transporting control and error control perspectives.In this paper we give an end-to-end architecture of transporting streaming media over the Internet.According to the architecture,we survey,classify,and compare state-of-the-art technologies including the protocol stacks,congestion control,rate adaptive coding,rate shaping,and error control mechanisms.

随着多媒体应用的发展,因特网上的流媒体传输技术已成为研究热点。在因特网上传输音频或视频流需要有带宽、延迟、丢包率等诸多的QoS要求,但当前的因特网并不提供任何QoS保证,这对流媒体在因特网上的传输提出巨大挑战。该文从端到端的传输控制技术角度入手,给出了一个因特网上流媒体传输的总体框架,然后依此框架为线索,对流媒体传输所必需的协议栈、拥塞控制、自适应速率编码、速率整形、差错控制等技术的研究进展进行了概括总结并进行了对比,同时提出了进一步的研究建议。
