Chronic experiments were performed on male rabbits provided with implanted brain cannula,through which acetylcholine was injected into the hypotha- lamus and the third ventricle.Blood samples were taken before and 10,20,40 and 60 minutes after the injection and the concentration of plasma free fatty acids (FFA) was determined by Dole's method.The results of 85 experiments were as follows: (1) No significant changes of plasma FFA concentration were observed after the injection of 7 microliters of normal saline or hypertonic saline into the hypothalamus, nor were any marked changes observed after the administration of 1.4 mg of acetylcho- line intravenously or intramuscularly.The averaged fluctuation of plasma FFA concentration in these experiments was about 10%. (2)Plasma FFA concentration was markedly increased 10 and 20 minutes after the injection of 0.7—1.4 mg of acetylcholine into the tuberal region of the hypotha- lamus (78.5% and 85.0% above the control level respectively),then returned to the initial value at the end of one hour.No significant changes of plasma FFA level were observed when the same amount of acetylcholine was injected either into the preoptiCo- septal region or into the mamillary area of the hypothalamus. (3)Plasma FFA concentration was slightly decreased after the administration of acotylcholine into the third ventricle.The value was about -24 % of the control level at the end of one hour observation period. It is concluded from the above results that the plasma concentration of FFA can be markedly influenced by stimulation of the hypothalamus,especially of its tuberal region,thus supporting the view that fat metabolism is under the control of the central nervous system.The mechanisms underlying this control remain to be shown.

本工作用雄性家兔做慢性实验。通过脑内埋藏套管向下丘脑微量注射乙酰胆硷溶液7微升,在注射后的10、20、40及60分钟分别自耳缘静脉取血,测定血浆自由脂肪酸的浓度。85次实验的结果总结如下:(一)将生理盐水或高强盐水7微升注入下丘脑并不引起血浆自由脂肪酸浓度明显的改变,其波动范围分别为6.5%及16.4%。肌肉或静脲注射乙酰胆硷1.4毫克,1小时内血浆自由脂肪酸浓度变化不超过11%。(二)将乙酰胆硷0.7—1.4毫克注入下丘脑结节区,可引起血浆自由脂肪酸水平明显升高,在注射后的第10及20分钟分别较注射前升高78.5%及85.0%,60分钟时恢复原水平。将同量乙酰胆硷注入视前-隔区及乳头区,均不引起血浆自由脂肪酸浓度明显改变。(三)将乙酰胆硷0.7—1.4毫克注入第三脑室,观察到血浆自由脂肪酸浓度缓慢而轻度的降低,在1小时未降低24%。总结以上结果可以认为,下丘脑,特别是其结节区可以显著影响血浆自由脂肪酸水平,其机制有待进一步阐明。

The lateral habenular nucleus is an efferent relay station in the pathways fromthe forebrain limbc system to the brainstem.Our previous work showed that someneurons in this nucleus were responsive to noxious stimulus(LHPE).In the pre-sent work we foundthat stimulating the septal region of conscious immobilizedrat could strongly inhibit spontaneous as well as pain-evoked discharges ofLHPE.The mean duration of inhibition to single shocks was 2.91 s;when repeti-tive shocks were given the duration was much prolonged.On the other hand elec-trolytic lesion in septal region resulted in a transient increase of the spontaneousdischarges of LHPE.In addition to LHPE,another kind of neurons(LHPI)which showed inhibitory response to pain stimulation could also be identified inthe lateral habenular nucleus.The spontaneous discharges of LHPI increasedwhen the septal region was stimulated.Still a third group of neurons inthis nucleus which was indifferent to noxious stimulation were not affected by sep,tal region stimulation.On the basis of these results a hypothetical efferent path-way for the modulation of pain sensation was suggested.
