Since 1974, a study on the system of reproduction and breeding of Chinese Fir's fine strains has been carried out in Sanming region. According to the principle of a combination of "selection, testing and reproduction, " a combined selection of "provenance, stand, family, individuality and clone" has been employed to make full use of the genetics resources within the species. The fine strain reproduction and breeding bases such as seed orchards and nursery of scion have so far totaled an area of 5875 mu., with a result of producing of 24503 kilograms of fine strains and of an afforestation area of 735000 mu. Thus an extra profit of more than one billion RMB will be expected when it is time of fellings. The research has proved that highly effective ways can be brought about in the selection and breeding of Chinese Fir's fine strains in the region by means of combining early selection with subsequent selection, population selection with individual selection, test of specific combining ability with that of general combining ability, sexual reproduction with asexual reproduction, and breeding population with production population etc.
