In this paper a new method is presented whereby the variance of F1 in the cross between two breeds is partitioned into an additive fraction, a non-additive fraction, and an environmental one, just as we do in selection theory. The concept of combining ability is strictly according to the definition given by its first proponents Sprague and Tatum( 1942 ) , that is, according to a partioning into general versus special combining ability. The model used is the usual one given in Falconer

General combining ability materal effects and effects of sex linkage were significant (P<0.05) at 60-day, but only maternal effects were significant at 70-day (P<^0.05). The general combining ability of the breeds were -617.4 grs, 183.3 grs, 21.9 grs and 213.8 grs for 70-day weight respectively. The specific combining ability of the cross combination between Schuan ( ) and Huoyan ( ) was highest (278.6 grs). Three cross combination using Huoyan goose as dam gave positive heterosis.

The results show that there are significant differences between the crossbred and purebred but PB for the PHE and PE purebred is better than that for the crossbred, and the latter is superior to the former as regards BW , ADG,50DW and PT.The differences among the purebreeds are significant. T-Line and C-line are generally better except for PT which is the best in G-line.BW is influenced by maternal effect. The differences in general combining ability(G.c.a)are significant and G.c. a of T-line is the best except for PT and PB.Among the G.c. a of PB the highest is C-line , then T-line , PT,G-line, and K-line in turn. The differences in specific combining ability(S.c.a)are no-significant except for PT. The PT of the combination of C×G is the highest in the S.c.a.The differences of reciporal cross are no-significant. It shows from the above experiments that T-line can be a better parent in single cross and the optimistic combination of C×T(or T×C ) is recommended in the commercial production of white duckling and T×K (or K×T ) in the nonwhite feather duckling.

用四个肉鸭品系──樱桃谷(C)、狄高(T)、昆山(K)、高邮(G)进行完全双列杂交所取得的七个性状:初生重、平均日增重、50日龄体重、半净膛屠宰率、全净膛屠宰率、胸肌率与腿肌率的数据进行了最小二乘分析。结果表明:除胸肌率外,杂交与纯繁间有显著差异;全净膛与半净膛屠宰率,纯繁优于杂交,其它性状则杂交优于纯繁。品系间差异均显著,且一般表现为T、C系较好,腿肌率则以G系较好。初生重显著受母体效应影响。一般配合力差异均显著。除胸肌率、腿肌率外,都以狄高最佳;胸肌率樱桃谷最好,狄高次之;腿肌率高邮最好,昆山次之。特殊配合力除腿肌率外,差异均不显著,腿肌率以樱桃谷×高邮最好。反交效应差异均不显著。
