To obtain the tomograph of body tissues by ultrasonic echoes and then to improve the quality of images by digital processing method is one of the important techniques of medical diagnosis. The digital processing methods of ultrasonic medical images are reviewed in this paper. (a), Digital filtering technique. The accumulative average, low-pass, high-pass, notch filtering and band-pass of the medical ultrasonic informations may be realized by linear digital filters. The real time processing can be realized by using the Discrete Fourier Transformation (DFT) and the Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT). The distortion of the ultrasonic informations produced by the filtering effect of the body tissues may be corrected by inverse filtering or deconvolution. Algorithm with "template" is a convenient and flexible method. In addition, non-linear filtering technique such as homomorphic filters may also be used to improve the quality of the images. (b), Image enhancement technique. Histogram equalization, non-linear stretching, interpolation, pseudo-coloring methods etc. may be used for image-enhancement. In addition, it is possible to raise the diagnostic precision by using the edge detection and contour tracing methods. (c), Ultrasonic Computerized-Tomograph (UCT). This is a new ultrasonic image processing method. While still in the laboratory stage, it calls for close attention.

The propagation of elastic wave in a cylindrical bore hole containing a fluid (for example, the muddy fluid is generally used) for acoustic logging is analyzed with a simplified model. Such a wave field may be looked upon as the superposition of partial waves which are classified according to different wave vectors along the axis of the hole. It is shown that, for the infinitely deep bore hole with single uniform rock layer outside it, the so-called "head wave" with maximum phase velocity v_(zm)=c_(2) exists...

Such a wave field may be looked upon as the superposition of partial waves which are classified according to different wave vectors along the axis of the hole. It is shown that, for the infinitely deep bore hole with single uniform rock layer outside it, the so-called "head wave" with maximum phase velocity v_(zm)=c_(2) exists only for characteristic frequencies as shown in formula (18), and partial waves with phase velocity v_(z) > c2 and c2 > vz > b2 are forbidden. Here, c_(2) and b_(2) are the longitudinal and transversal wave velocity in the rock layer outside the hole respectively. This result may be used to explain the so-called "filtering effect" of the hole as re-ported in Ref. (3). It is also shown that, for the hole with more than one rock layer outside it, a "head wave" which has similar properties described above is present only under certain conditions.

Median filtering is a effective measure for separating VSP wave field. Its procedure is as follows. (1) the waves to be separated(upgoing wave or downgoing wave) are aligned by time shift correction. (2) the seismic traces are then input to median filter. (3) the input traces are grouped in every five traces, each one being taken as the mid trace in turn (the input traces can also be grouped in other odd number traces). (4) in every group, the five amplitudes of the wave to be separated are rearranged...

If the output traces have quite uniform amplitudes of the wave to be separated,the median filtering effect is desirable. To obtain better result, more traces should be taken in a group.However,too many traces may cause more null side traces, which can influence the effect of median filtering. Median filtering can highlight wave band better than 2-D velocity filtering does. It also causes a better VSP wave field separation.

多道中值滤波是分离VSP波场的一种有效方法。其基本做法是:先将欲分离的波(不论是上行波或是下行波)校直,然后进行重采样,其值作为中值滤波器的输入,并以各道为中心构成五道一组(本文采用五道,也可以是其它奇数道),每组内各道振幅按其数值大小和正负号进行比较,依次重新排列,取每组处于中间位置的那个振幅值作为中值滤波器的输出。如果经中值滤波输出的各道的振幅变化比较均一,则说明滤波效果比较理想。中值滤波选用的道数应当适当多一些,以保证中值滤波的效果,但是选择的道数过多,边道必然出现较多的零值,也影响滤波的效果。中值滤波较通常的二维视速度滤波更能有效地突出波组特征,分离VSP波场的效果也较二维滤波优越。
