In the Hunan Rice Variety Regional Trials of 1992 and 1993,it yielded an average of 9.48 t/ha over 7 locations which was 4.7%(significant at 1%level) higherthan the check Shanyou 63 and 7.74 t/ha over 6 locations,5.8%higher than Shanyou 63, respectively, withthe growth duration 3~5 days shorter than that of Shanyou 63.It is moderately resistant to blast and bacte-rial blight.The grain quality is medium with acceptable eating equality.Pei’ai 64S, the maternal parent,is a newly-developed thermo-sensitive genic male sterile and widely-compatible line with low critical temperature(about 23℃ under short daylength condition).It is complete-ly sterile in the sterile period with the pollen and seed sterilities at above 99.5%.Because of its low criticaltemperature,it ensures the seed purity and quality in hybrid seed production of it,but the unstabability inthe yield of its multiplication occurs easily under common conditions.However, a new technique viz.,an ir-rigation treatment with cold (relatively low-temperature)water durihg certain period of the young panicledifferentiation stage, has been found to solve the problem.By this way,the multiplying yield can reach morethan 2.25 t/ha.

N5088S/R187,a new two-line japonica hybrid rice,was developed in 1989. N5088S,thematernal parent, was bred from the cross of Nongken 58S (the MS gene donor) and Nonghu 26(a japonicalater maturing variety) in 1986, and it was certified technically by the Science and Technology Committee ofHubei Province in 1992. The paternal parent R187 was selected from a variant plant of the japonica variety Su512. In the Hubei Rice Variety Regional Trials in 1992 and 1993. the combination of N5088S/R187,yielded6.75...

N5088S/R187,a new two-line japonica hybrid rice,was developed in 1989. N5088S,thematernal parent, was bred from the cross of Nongken 58S (the MS gene donor) and Nonghu 26(a japonicalater maturing variety) in 1986, and it was certified technically by the Science and Technology Committee ofHubei Province in 1992. The paternal parent R187 was selected from a variant plant of the japonica variety Su512. In the Hubei Rice Variety Regional Trials in 1992 and 1993. the combination of N5088S/R187,yielded6.75 t/ha averagely, which was 5.75%more than that of ckeck Ⅰ Eyi 105(variety) and 3.85%more thanthat of ckeck Ⅱ Weiyou 64 (hybrid),and ranked the first in yield performance. The multiplying yleld ofN5088S was about 4.5t/ha, and the yield in its hybrid seed production was generally more than 2. 25 t/ha.The combination moderately resists blast and bacterial blight and threshes easily. Its grain quality meets thestandards of the 2nd class grain quality issued by the chinese Ministry of Agriculture. In 1994,it is expectedthat the combination will be planted to 3333.3 hectares with its seed production area of 333.3 hectares.

两系杂交粳稻N5088S/R187于1989年选育成功。该组合具有产量优势明显、抗病性强、熟期适宜、米质优和易脱粒等特点。1993年试种示范面积1万亩,平均亩产450kg左右,高产田块亩产达590kg,该组合繁殖制种产量高,符合商品化生产的要求,预计在长江中下游地区具有良好的应用前景。
