The results show that improvement of combustion and a saving of 3% fuel can be attained by introducing suitable air-fuel ratio and proper fuel preheating temperature. In addition, the mechanism of deterioration of combustion is theoretically analysed. The defects of too low the fuel preheating temperature are discussed from every aspect which point out that the fuel preheating temperature must be selected to maintain its visco- sity within 3-5°E (Engler's degree), in order to satisfy the requirement of complete combustion. Finally, important measures improving combustion, preventing smoke and saving fuel are listed as following: 1, To select proper fuel preheating temperature, usually 120-140℃ for residue oil; 2, To raise the air preheating temerature, usually above 125℃; 3, To keep the atomizer at optimum technical condition; 4. To adjust the blade angle of the register and the position of the diffuser; 5, To adjust the air pressure.
