AIM The purpose is to establish a reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic Method for the separation of nimodipine and its UV photodecomposition product and comparatively study on photochemical kinetics of nimodipine and its β CD inclusion complex. METHODS A RP HPLC was used on C 18 column with a mobile phase of methanol water(33∶67) for separation of nimodipine and its UV photodecomposition product and the detection wavelength at 238nm. RESULTS A HPLC method was established for the determination of nimodipine and was used to study the kinetics of nimodipine and its β CD inclusion complex in water solution. CONCLUSION The method is convenient, accurate and precise. The behavior of UV photodecomposition of nimodipine and its β CD inclusion complex in water solution followed first order reaction. Half time of nimodipine in β CD inclusion complex was increased.

Objective To prepare inclusion compound of nimodipine and cyclodextrin by coprecipitation and to investigate the photolysis of nimodipine and its inclusion complexes.Methods Nimodipine and its solid inclusion compound was photodecomposed by accleration.GC?ECD was used for separation and determination of nimodipine and its photodecomposition product.Results A gas chromatographic (GC) method for the separation of nimodipine and its photodecomposition product has been established.Under given conditions,an GC method has been established for the separation and determination of nimodipine.Compared with the photostability of the drug substance,the photostability of nimodipine in the inclusion was more stable.Conclusion The behavior of photodecomposition of nimodipine and its β ?CD inclusion complex correlated with first order dynamic equation.Half time of nimodipine in β ?CD inclusion complex was increased.This is an efficient method to prepare the NIM?β?CD for enhancing the photostability of nimodipine.
