The quality of charcoal, operation of roasting, cell starting and running are dominant influencing factors for cathode damage. The damage of the cathode can be verified by measuring the surface temperature of the cathode rob head and the voltage reducing of the sub-bus-line. The service life of aluminum reduction cell can be prolonged by optimization of the cathode material, heat field distribution, roasting and starting process, normal operation.
