High density also reduced the endosperm cell number, kernel growth rate and kernel weight.Experimental results showed that reducing the seedling rate in an appropriate amount and es-tablishing reasonable canopy structure would increase the physiological activities of plant after anthesis, lengthen the slow decline period of leaf senescence, delay the rapid-decline period and enhance the photosynthetic assimilate, enlarge the sink and increase the fllling capacity. All these contribute to the increase of kernel weight.

The results indicated that in flag leaves potassium deficiency caused are markable decrease in both chlorophyll and soluble protein contents, a sharp decline in root vigour and photosynthetic rate during grain filling period. While the peroxidase(POX)activity and malondialdehyde(MDA) content of flag leaves increased in response to potassium deficiency. A phenomenon characteristic of senescing tissues arised more early and seriously in K-deficiency plant than K-adequate supply plant.Under the condition of K-deficiency,the supplement of K increased the leaf chlorophyll content , stomatal conductance, root vigour, photosynthetic rate and CO2 assimilation, promoted the distribution of14 CO2 assimilate from leaf to spike and root, accelerated the kernel growth rate. Wheat yield was increased significantly by supplying with K fertilizer in the field experiment, the average 7. 3 kg grain yield could be increased from the application of l kg K2O.
