This paper describes two methods of passive localization with dual arrays. The first is based on angular measurements only, and the second on both angular and time delay measurements. Comparison of the two methods is presented. Preprocessing of data and the method of least squares are used to improve the precision of localization. Monte Carlo simulation demonstrates the effects of the array location, the spacing between the two arrays, and changes in some measured parameters. Simulation results show that, by using bearing-only data or bearing and time delay data in localizing moving targets, the need for array maneuvers can be eliminated with better observability. With certain improvements, the algorithms can be used in target localization at sea.

The result of the error simulation and the error theory analysis indicate that a distant aerial target can be detected by the passive ground electrostatic detection system with a round array arrangement.
