The sedimentary gravity flow was caused by slumping or by floodwater, which has some alluvial properties. According to its sedimentary environments and mechanism, this paper has described the particular characteristics of debris flow in shallow water, mentioned the model of the fan delta——sublake fan complex system, and depicted the depositional properties of subfacies and their distributed patterns in space.

本文通过对双河地区核桃园组第三段的岩性、沉积构造、粒度分析和测井相研究,利用电子计算机技术、电镜扫描和X—射线衍射曲线分析等手段,提出区内既有重力流沉积又有牵引流沉积,其中重力流沉积占主导地位。根据主要支掌机制,区内重力流沉积可以分为碎屑流、颗粒流和浊流沉积。重力流可以由滑塌引起,也可以由洪流引起,并具冲积性质。依据沉积背景,结合沉积机理,本文论述了碎屑流沉积的特殊性和部分具有浅水性的特征。并提出了扇三角洲—湖底扇模式,简略阐述了各亚相的沉积特征和空间展布规律。

Surface area concentration Csa is a new parameter for indicating the characteristics of debris flow. It is defined the ratio of the total surface area of solid grains in a unit volume of debris flow to water volume contained in this unit volume. Its dimention is 1/L. This parameter can comprehensively reflect the concentration and solid grain composition in debris flow.Csa can be obtained by integral method with the unit weight νc of debris flow and particle size distribution...

Surface area concentration Csa is a new parameter for indicating the characteristics of debris flow. It is defined the ratio of the total surface area of solid grains in a unit volume of debris flow to water volume contained in this unit volume. Its dimention is 1/L. This parameter can comprehensively reflect the concentration and solid grain composition in debris flow.Csa can be obtained by integral method with the unit weight νc of debris flow and particle size distribution curve. Whole calculation may be done on two steps. At first,A100, the sum totalof surface area of all solid particles in weight of 100g,is calculated by integral along whole par-tide size distribution curve,i, e. A100 = dP,where D is grain diameter,P is weightaccumulated percent ,y. is the special gravity of solid particle. Secondly, surface area concentra tion ,here K is the coefficient of shape correction.Csa is able to be applied in classification of debris flow. For example at Jiangjia Ravine, Dongchuan,Yunnan,China,when Csa<2,500/cm,the debris flow is non-viscous,Csa=2,500-3,500/cm is transitional and Csa>3,500/cm is viscous. And using this parameter,debris flows with different concentrations, compositions or in diverse regions can be conveniently compared. For instance, debris flows in three regions, their yf were correspondently 2.20,2.20,1.69 (g/cms) ,the first and the third appeared very viscous,but the second almost wasn't viscous,because the first and the third Csa are about 7,000/cm,and the second Csa is near 3,000/cm. Some experimental phenomena are also able to be explained by adopting Csa, and explanation for those phenomena is difficult if applying νc. Such as, the difference of setting velocity of sediment in bentonite and kaolin slurry with the same volume concentration; the change of critical volume concentration Cv in rheological experiment. This Cv means that slurry Theological behaviour appears time-dependent effect when slurry concentration excesses this Cv,and so on.

It is generally thought that viscous debris flow has a higher fine particle content than non-viscous debris flow, so its slurry concentration is much higher than the latter. In fact, the research shows that the fine particle content of viscous debris flow is nearly the same as that of non-viscous debris flow. For example in our paper, their fine particle contents (d<1.0mm) both are 500~800kg/m2. Now that the contents are the same approximately, why are their slurry concentrations very different? Obviously, this...

For example in our paper, their fine particle contents (d<1.0mm) both are 500~800kg/m2. Now that the contents are the same approximately, why are their slurry concentrations very different? Obviously, this is caused by different coarse particle content, the coarse particle content of viscous debris flow is much higher by comparison.Naturally, because coarse particles reduce the space (or volume) occupied by fine particle and water, they can raise the effective concentration of fine particle slurry, thus influencing indirectly the physical characteristics of debris flow. These are the important contribution of coarse particles to debris flow.The coarse particles can raise the concentration of fine particle slurry. On the contrary, fine particle slurry with higher concentration is able to decrease the settling rate of coarse particles and make them maintain in slurry. Just the action of coarse and fine particles together can engage viscous debris flow to reach very high sediment concentration.The paper gives a concept of effective concentration C(?)=Vf/(1-Vc),here Vf is the volume of fine particles per unit volume and Vc is the volume of coarse ones. Effective concentration can reflect the influence of coarse particle. Basing this concept, many phenomena of debris flow are easy to be explained. At last, an example of calculation mothed of C(?) is introduced.
