This paper presents switch-mode power supply power factor improvement method via harmonics elimination. Three methods are evaluated: a series connected resonant filter, a parallel connected resonant filter and an active boost converter. The experiment results show input power factor, distortion factor,crest factor, total harmonic distortion and harmonic components.

Different ASVG modeling methods, control strategies, and main circuit configuration are described and their respective merits and shortcoming are explained. The behaviors of ASVG under unbalanced input voltage conditions are studied in particular and the effectiveness of different suppression approaches are investigated. The authors suggest that an LC shunt resonant filter be a simple and effective approach for suppressing the second harmonic ripple of DC intermediate voltage and improving the performance of ASVG under unbalanced network state. The paper provides a quick reference for the practising researcher to decide which methods should be considered for developing a GTO based static var compensator(SVC). 
