The computing errors and computing consumptions of ab initio, semi-empirical and density functional transformation (DFT) method were compared with each other. The results show that the Austin Model 1(AM1), which belongs to semi-empirical methods is very fit for the research of energy gap of single wall carbon nanotubes in STO-3G level.
