Ti-7Al-4Mo alloy specimens were hot-worked under different temperatures, and then air cooled, solution treated at 950℃ (β transus is 1010℃), quenched, aged at 600℃ for 12 hrs, air cooled to room temperature. The specimens are of cylindrical shapes. After the intense torsional deformation, three kinds of macroscopic fracture surfaces were produced.In those specimens that were extruded at temperature above the beta transus and solution treated, quenched and aged, the metallographic structure contains grain boundary a plus aged and transformed Widmanstatten structure. Intense shear bands were found at the interface between the grain boundary a and transformed β after torsional deformation. Metallographic and electron microscopic observations indicated that most of the cracks were formed by shearing deformation along the grain boundary a. The early cracks had their orientations parallel to the maximum shearing stress. In these extruded specimens, longitudinal and transverse shear bands distributed rather uniformly,and the final rupture was tranverse to the longitudinal axis which resulted in a flat fracture surface.In those specimens that are hot-worked below the βtransus, air cooled, solution treated and aged, the metallographic structure is primary a plus transformed β. The propagation of shear bands and cracks take place in a complicated way. After torsion, there appear longitudinal as well as trans- verse shear bands. These bands may appear within the primary a or in the transformed β. When a phase is quite tough,the shear bands may first appear in transformed β. After the neighboring bands align each other, crack forms through shearing decohesion. Large primary a particles inhibit the crack, make the crack blunted and stop it. Otherwise, the crack is forced to turn away. In the early period, shear bands and cracks are controlled by the shearing stress. In the later period of the longitudinal crack, the torsional deformation makes it deflected, the magnitude of shear stress decreases, and the normal pressure will inhibit the further growth of the crack.If the material is tough, the tension stress at 45° to the longitudinal direction is unable to produce helical fracture at the end of the deflected crack.In this situation, the deflected longitudinal crack stops, and the transverse crack formed at the middle portion of the specimen grows continuously, which results in a flat fracture surface.In those specimens that are hot-rolled below the βtransus, especially when the finished temperature is rather low, anisotropy in properties is more obvious. In this case, longitudinal shear bands first begin to grow, but there are also transverse bands. If the material is less tough, the deflected longitudinal crack, in spite of having been acted by the pressure from the sides and the decrease of shearing stress, will turn to helical form by the tension stress 45° to the longitudinal direction. This results in a split mode of fracture surface.After torsion, in Ti-7Al-4Mo alloy dpecimens, shear bands and cracks usually form at the interface between the grain boundary a and aged-transformed structure. The initiation of crack,in general,does not conform to Stroh's mechanism, and also it does not appear that the normal stress and shearing stress are equally important as proposed by Smith and Barnby. We propose that the shearing stress is responsible for the decohesion mechanism. Treating dislocations as a continuous distribution, and applying the principles of fracture mechanics, we discuss the initiation of crack and at the same time, the propagation of shear band is described.

In the next place, we have done much to further the understanding of the relation between the stress field due to mobile dislocation near crack—tip and the global gauge field of U(1) group, it was shown that the mobile dislocation field about crack—tip must to satisfy the Dirac condition of quantization.

在本文,我们从流变力学基本原理出发,着重探讨了晶态固体起裂时裂纹尖端附近晶体位错行为。首先,我们指出存在连续分布位错的空间甚至已非Riemann空间,而是具有挠率(torsion)的Cartan空间,该挠率可描述位错密度,从而经典的调和方程不再适用于宏观断裂力学。其次,我们进一步探讨了裂纹尖端附近运动位错引起的应力埸与U(1)群整体规范埸间的关系,它表明裂纹尖端周围的运动位错埸必须满足Dirac量子化条件。
