The results were as follows:(1)Sterility was induced by long day and fertility was caused by short day. Spike growing cone elongation to pistil and stamen differentiation was the sensitive period when fertility and sterility were transferred by light. (2)Quadrant stage was the period when fertility was affected availably by temperature and the effect of temperature was significant under short day condition, but not significant under long day condition.(3)The sterility was controlled by a pair of recessive nuclear genes.(4)In shalingzi, the area of spring millet, all plants of 821 were sterile at different sowing time when day length was 15 hours,but in southern area of Hebei, the plants of 821 were sterile for early sowing and fertile for late sowing under natural photoperiod condition.
