(1)Generally speaking, HCI result obtained in laboratory coincides with the common conclusion drawn from computers, that is to say, the decreases of dominant frequency(F_(ma), mean frequency(F_(me) and bandwidth (B_w), as well as the increases of low...

In laboratory, water and gas contents in sandstone are determined using transmitted wave. Ultrasonic wave transducer is used as source, and transient waveform recorder as receiving device. Data are processed by minicomputer. Some discoveries are obtained. (1)Generally speaking, HCI result obtained in laboratory coincides with the common conclusion drawn from computers, that is to say, the decreases of dominant frequency(F_(ma), mean frequency(F_(me) and bandwidth (B_w), as well as the increases of low band area(A_1) and A_l/A_s ratio(A_s: band area in sum) are helpful to indication of hydrocarbon. (2) A_l/A_s ratio is quite stable and sensitive, A_l is less so, and the least are the B_w, F_(ma) and F_(ma) (3)Low center frequency and its bandwidth cause different effects on A_l and A_l/A_s. When band is constant and center frequency is 46.8 kc, A_1 and A_1/A_s get maximum relative variation; when the center frequnecy is constant, then the smaller the low bandwidth, the more sensitive are A_1 and A_1/A_s variations.(4)HCI indexes are related to the percent content of gas in sandstone. When gas content increases from 0-50, 60%, F_(ma), F_(me), B_w decrease, and A_1, A_1/A_s increase. If gas content increase goes on, HCI indexes vary inversely. (5)It is possible to find new HCI parameters from filtering character and elastic coefficient of rocks.
