The conclusion is gained that calcium ion can serve as working medium for resonance\|metestable (R\|M) transition laser well enough by the analysis of its energy levels.Using Ne as buffer gas, an average laser power of 406mW and maximum power density of 6.9?mW/cm 3 are obtained in a discharge tube with 45cm electrode interval and 12.9?mm inner diameter. Some characteristics of the calcium ion R\|M transition laser are studied and the relations of some parameters are determined.
