The alumina produced from the pregnant liqour of sintering process makes up about 50% of the total output. Because its strength is too low, it will break severely during calcination and transportation. Therefore it can not satisfy the requirements of dry gas cleaning system and continuous central feeding precalcining anode bath. Because its strength is too low, it will break severely during calcination and transportation. Therefore it can not satisfy the requirements of dry gas cleaning system and continuous central feeding precalcining anode bath. According to the results of our test in pilot plant, we developed a new carbonization-decomposition technology and seeding precipitation technology to produce coarse and solid alumina. The main characteristics of this new technology are: 1. The main physical properties of Sandy alumina are: for carbonization sandy alumina particle size (%)+150μm 8.7,—45μm7.3 attrition index 16.7% for seeding preciprtation Sandy alumina particle size (%)+150μm 5.4,—45μm8.4 attrition index 11.6% 2. without lowering the precipitation yield of carbonization-decomposition and the quality of alumina 3. without lowering the productivity of carbonization and seeding precipitation tanks 4. Sandy alumina can be produced without classification.
