An oil pump efficiency formula is derived by a combination of fluid flow through porous,multiphase flow in a vertical pipe,to obtain a co- ordination point on the two phases (liquid and gas phases) flow in pumps (denoted as equations 15 and 16 in this paper).Four items can be obta- ined by this formula: 1.Calculation of pump efficiency; 2.Calculation of the dynamic liquid level in casing-tubing annulus; 3.Determination of the setting depth of the pump according to the production proration of the oil well; 4.Prediction of the well production after a chang of operation pa- rameters or bleeding off the casing head gas (lowering of gas-oil ratio). Five years of field practices show that the above four problems can be solved satisfactorily by an application of the above formula.Thus it can give an indication in well production increasing and is a powerful tool in the scientific management of the oil field.
