In this paper we, using the viscoelastic, correspondence principle. consider the energy fracture criteria for a variety of linear viscoelastic solids. This principle arises because of the similarity which exists between the governing viscoelastic equations after Laplace transforms with respect to time and the corresponding untransformed elastic equations. We may therefore use this correspondence to write down immediately the Laplace transforms of the associated viscoelastic expressions. By inverting these transformed equations, we may thus finally obtain formulae describing the energy fracture criteria of Maxwell, standard linear and Burgers solids, respectively.The analysis of this paper investigates the application of the energy balance fracture criteria to linear viscoelastic bodies. It is shown that:(a) The energy release rates of viscoelastic cracked bodies may be divided into two parts. One describes the effect of retarded elasticity, another part describes the effect of viscous flow;(b) Burgers solids, as well as Maxwell solids, exists a critical state. Because of the viscous flow, this state will arrive sooner or late:(c) The crack wilt propagate with high speed as soon as critical state of cracked bodies arrives;(d) In contrast to Maxwell and Burgers bodies, for standard linear cracked bodies, there exist a value of the load below which the critical state will never occur, exceed which then they will attain to the critical state sooner on later.

The t hree kinds of instruments we developed are directed against the mentioned pro cesses. In this paper,the application range and situation of the instrumentsare analysed a nd discussed. Objective To study the correlation between fracture of distal radius(colles'fracture)following low energy trauma in 40~65 aged women and osteoporosis.Methods 85 female patients aged between 40 and 65 years who sustained Colles'fracture were studied.DEXA was use to measure areal bone mineral density(aBMD g/cm 2) in the lumbar spine and femoral neck and pQCT was used to mersure volumic bone mineral density(vBMD mg/cm 3)in the uninjured distal radius and distal tibia.The data were compared with age matched female control subjects with no fracture.The patients were grouped into 40~50 and 51~65 age group.The mechanism of injury was subdivided into “Low energyfracture group which were sustained by simple slip and fall,and “High energyfracture group which were caused by fall from height,traffic,accident or crushing injuries.Menstrual status,diet and exercise habitat were also surveyed.Results SPSS 9.0 were used for statistical calculation.Oneway ANOVA and Independent Student T Test were used to compare the BMD differences beween groups.In either age group,“Low energyfracture group had a significantly lower BMD than controls and “High energyfracture group.12.5% of these patients were found with spinal aBMD lower than 2.5SD(Z score)while there were 41.2% of them showed distal radius vBMD lower than 2.5SD(Z score).Conclusion The results of our study indicated that Colles'fractures in 40~65 aged women caused by low energy injury were associated with significantly reduced BMD and a high proportion of patients were osteoporotic.These patients should actively protect themselves against other future fratures.
