The color reactions of niobium with a number of derivatives of 2-(2'-thiazolylazo) phenol and 2-(2'-pyridylazo) phenol have been studied. The color reactions of niobium with a number of derivatives of 2-(2'-thiazolylazo) phenol and 2-(2'-pyridylazo) phenol have been studied. It has been shown that the most sensitive reactions are observed and the most stable color complexes of niobium are formed with reagents containing an additional polar group such as —OH, -NH_2 or —NR_2 in the para-position to azo group. The reagent 2-(2'-thiazolylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol (TAE), synthesized by coupling of diazotized 2-aminothiazole with m-diethylaminophenol, has been proposed by the authors in 1965 for the spectrophotometric determination of small amounts of niobium. The composition of the complex has been confirmed by different methods as 1:1. The apparent stability constant at pH 4.65 has been determind by the method of Turner et al. , as well as by Kleiner's method, and the values have been found to be 2.0×10~6 and 1.2×10~6 respectively. The extraction and electrophoresis experiments indicated the anionic nature of the complex. A detailed procedure for the synthesis of TAE is given.

The absorption maxima of these green complexes appear at 628-642 nm, and their molar absorpti-vities are 1.21×105-1.49×105 ·mole-1 · cm-1. The composition of the green complex of lutetium is Lu3+:CAS: 4, 7-dp-phen: CTAB = 1:2:1:4. In the presence of ethyl alcohol(7ml),the absorption maxima of the green complexes show that the bathochromic shift and the molar absorptivities become larger. In this system, CTAB exerts either the sensitization effect or the decoloration effect on the color complexes of rare-earth metals at different concentrations. The amount of CTAB required for complete decoloration of different rare-earth complexes is different. Satisfactory results have been obtained by the application of the quaternary complexes in the spectropho-tometric determination of small amounts of gadolinium in the presence of lanthanum.

A new chromogenic reagent p trifluomethyl chlorophosphonazo has been synthesized. The properties of reagent and of its complexes with rare earths have been investigated. In 0.2 N HCI. the reagent reacts with rare earths to form deep color complexes. It is more sensi tive for yttrium sub group than cerium sub group. The absorption peak is 659—668nm. The molar absorptivities is 0.96—1.02×10~5 for La—Nd. 1.03—1.29×10~5 for Sm—Yb and 1.13×10~5 L. mol~(-1).cm~(-1) for Y. The optimum acidity is 0.2N HCI.

合成了新的稀土显色剂对三氟甲基偶氮氯膦。研究了用此显色刑测定铝合金中稀土总量的分光光度法。在酸性介质中与稀土元素成正序反应。轻稀土λ_(max)=668nm,ε=0.96~1.02×10~5·L·mol~(-1)·cm~(-1);重稀土λ_(max)=659nm,ε=1.03~1.29×10~5L·mol~(-1)·cm~(-1)。
