Objective To examine the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1(MMP-1)in colonic mucosa of patients with ulcerative colitis(UC),to investigate the role of MMP-1 in the process of ulceration,and to verify the relationship between MMP-1 expression and the severity of the disease.
Results The detection rate of gastric ulcer,duodenal ulcer,and gastric cancer by gastroscopy during the period of January 2004 to December 2005(5.53%,10.07% and 4.03%,respectively) was significantly lower than that during the period of January 1994 to December 1995(8.17%,11.21% and 6.21%,respectively,P<0.05).
The detection rate of PU in the old age group was 21.40%,which was higher than that in the young group 16.89%. In the young group,the duodenal ulcer(DU) account for 77.8%,gastric ulcer(GU) 22.2%. But in the old age group,the GU account for 43.07%,DU 56.93%.
Diclofenac (25 mg kg-1) and meloxicam (7.5 mg kg-1) produced 9.3 and 19.6 mm2 ulcer areas in stomachs of rats, respectively, when used alone, but when combined with nimesulide diclofenac and meloxicam did not cause any injury in rat stomachs.
While ranitidine at 100 mg kg-1 dose prevented diclofenac-induced ulcer formation, it reduced meloxicam-induced ulcer formation significantly.
