Gibberellic Acid3 Modifies Some Growth and Physiologic Effects of Paclobutrazol (PP333) on Wheat
      
Gibberellic acid3 (GA3) modification of some growth and physiologic effects of paclobutrazol (PP333) was studied by applying PP333 alone and in combination with GA3 at the tillering stage of wheat.
      
Attempts were made to increase the effective internal concentration of gibberellins by exogenous application of GA3, and to decrease them by various applications of abscisic acid (ABA) and paclobutrazol (PP333), alone or in combination with GA3.
      
At a concentration of 17 μmol·L-1, paclobutrazol (PP), a triazole plant growth retardant, effectively reduced the elongation and increased the thickness of hypocotyls in 6-day-old Phaseolus vulgaris L.
      
Paclobutrazol (PP333) sprayed at the 8-9 leaf stage significantly suppressed inflorescence stalk length and slightly delayed flower bud formation and anthesis.

Cytohistological observation showed that the normal cytohistological zona- tion of the meristems of plants treated was less distinct, and cells of the meris- tematic tissue were densely stained than those in control. Paclobutrazol treatment also affected the peroxidase activity in 1eaves and shoot tips of Evergreen Euonymus. Changes of enzyme activity were dependent on the cocentrations of Paclobutrazol solution and growth stage of plants. In treatment with 4000 ppm of Paclobutrazol, the peroxidase activity in both leaves and shoot tips of plants increased rapidly during a long period, and then, decreased with growth of shoots. 2000 ppm Paclobutraszol treatment induced ap- pearance of one peroxidase isozyme in leaves. While 1000 and 2000 ppm Paclobu- trazol treatments induced appearance of two and four peroxidase isozymes, respectively in the shoot tips of plants.
