The ultrasonic cardiographic investigation was performed in 5 groups of normal youths, working with various labour load at different altitudes, i.e., 4,500 m. 2,800 m. and 80 m.above sea level. The results showed that the work of right heart was increased with labour intensity and height above sea level, and was reflected by an increase in transverse diameters of the right ventricle, the right ventricular outflow tract and the right pulmonary artery, a delay of the isometric diastolic interval of right ventricle,...

The results showed that the work of right heart was increased with labour intensity and height above sea level, and was reflected by an increase in transverse diameters of the right ventricle, the right ventricular outflow tract and the right pulmonary artery, a delay of the isometric diastolic interval of right ventricle, and a rise in incidence of pulmonary hypertension at high altitude, especially in groups with heavy physical load. On the other hand, adaptation of left heart to high altitude was rather good, because there was no statistic difference in stroke volume, minute volume, cardiac index and ejection fraction between groups at high altitude and at sea level, in spite of an obvious decrease in transverse diameter and end-diastolic volume of left ventricle at an altitude of 4,500 m.

The stroke volume and the left ventricular end-diastolic volume were greater at sea level. The cardiac index and the ejection fraction showed a downward tendency from Kunlun Pass to Beijing, but the minute volume was practically identical.In addition, we made a comparison of the echocardiogram between two groups at sea level, one of them was those coming from high altitude. Finally, the possible significance of the changes presented above was discussed.

Systolic time intervals were determined by the method of simultaneous recording of electrocardiogram, phonocardiogram and external carotid pulse tracing. The alterations in systolic time intervals werethe associated with the stroke volume, determined by echocardiogr-aphy.No difference was observed between the heart rates of the high altitude residents and that of the control.It seems that an increased afterload and a decreased preload of the left ventricle are presumably concerned with the increased pre-ejection period/ left ventricalar ejection time ratio.

为了解高原对左室功能的影响,在海拔4500米和2800米地区对移居者作了心脏收缩间期(STI)的测定。结果表明,移居者与平原对照组相比,心率无显著差别,而射血前期(PEP)延长,左室射血时间(LVET)缩短,射血前期与左室射血时间的比值(PEP/LVET)增大,总电机械收缩期(QS_2)则无明显改变。推测STI的改变与左室前负荷的减小及后负荷的增大有关。
