With nontoxic and good thermal and chemical stability, γCe2S3 is a promising inorganic red pigment. "Two region method" of preparation γCe2S3 was illustrated clearly. Lowering the transition temperature of βCe2S3 to γCe2S3 and obtaining pure γCe2S3 at lower temperature may be achieved by adding some Na+ to the starting materials. γCe2S3 doped with Na+ changes the color from red to orange red. Na+ perhaps occupy the vacancies and substitute some of the cerium atoms.
