As a result of the traditional language teaching, the teaching of listening in the secondary technical schools have been neglected. The teaching situation of listening in the secondary technical schools remains lagging behind, and the phenomenon of "deaf-mute" English among students is so serious that it has hindered the smooth going of English teaching.
Based upon the above analysis, the author concludes that an application of the task-based approach to listening comprehension teaching will help to improve students' listening comprehension competence.
According to the principles of task-based approach, the author probes into five principles of task-based listening comprehension teaching and discusses three stages of task-based listening comprehension teaching, which is the focal point of this thesis.
In Part Two, literature review, the author reviews the task-based language teaching and its previous researches abroad and at home as well as main researches of application of task-based teaching in listening comprehension teaching abroad and in China.
