The experiments were conducted in a glass flume. Apparatus for keeping automatically constant difference of temperature between the jet issued and the crossflow was used in the experiments.Results including zones of the jet and their characteristics, trajectory of the jet axis, spreading rate of the jet, decay of axial velocity and axial temperature difference of the jet are presented. Four empirical formulas are obtained by dimensional analysis and regressive computation.
Based on experimental studies, this paper concerns mainly the flow behav- ior of cooling water discharging into a wide but shallow river.
