This paper presents experimental shearing and swelling results of the modified expansive clay with different water contents and lime (cement) content. The influence of the water content and the lime (cement) content on the shearing strength and swelling capacity are evaluated according to the experimental results. The optimal water content and lime content are then obtained.
The swelling capacity test of the expansive soils and that of the expansive soils reinforced by fibers under load are carried out, and their expansion ratios under different water contents, compactness and upper load are calculated and compared.
2. In-situ swelling force tests of subgrade have been done on the basis of different structures of roadbed and different swelling properties of subsoil. Expansion characteristic of expansive soil subgrade such as swelling force, swelling capacity are understanded, which provides gist for principle of subgrade treatment, cut replacement depth and least roadbed height.
The results of expansive tests of samples on site and investigation in situ show that the concrete made of the moderate heat cement with 3.5%～5.0% MgO has slightly expansive property. The maximum expansion rate is about 5.5×10-5 and tend to stable values in 0.5～1 year.
Based on the analyses of indexes such as maximum expansion measurement,critical expansion force, free expansion rate,drying saturated moisture absorptionrate and so on,which show the expansion characteristic of swell rock, a preliminary methodand judgement criterion on sedimentary mashed swell rock's distinguishing and classifying isproposed in this paper.
Conclusions: In clinical practice, proper expansion pattern should be chosen and the expansion rate should be controlled within 10% in the restoration of cement-expanded composite screw post. The screw should be tightened up into the bottom of prepared root.
