Coumarin 461(C461) Dye doped and SiO 2 based solid laser material with blue band was synthesized by sol gel technique. With 308nm XeCl laser as pump source, the laser output with 465nm wavelength was obtained from the material under transverse pumping. In the case of 10mJ excitation energy, the derived blue laser energy can be up to 0 53mJ.
Four kinds pf cavity configurations of dye lasers transversely pumped by high PEF CuBr lasers are investigated and their operating characteristics compared.

The results demonstrate that the transverse pumping scheme of solid-state laser-active media with the copper vapor laser is promising compared to the longitudinal pumping scheme from the viewpoint of the lifetime parameters.
The efficiency of transversely pumped lasers with an intensity peaked in the center of the beam profile was found to be higher than doughnut shaped intensity distributions.
It is shown analytically that for a pulsed dye laser amplifier, transversely pumped by a short duration pulsed laser, there exists an optimum gain length of the amplifier at dye laser wavelengths at which ground state absorption does not vanish.
