The conclusion was obtained by taking D and S as the evaluation standard of performance-price, as follows: the shear stability of VII raises when the degree of polymerization decreases, however the thickening ability also declines while the molecular weight reduces;

A performance investigation is carried out based on 7 brands of viscosity index modifiers belong to 2 categories, namely ethylene - propylene copolymer and isoprene copolymer. The investigation concludes that polymers with a star like structure such as Shell 260 (hydrogenated polyisoprene)can offer both excellent shear stability and thickening ability, are suitable for the use in lube oil with shear stability requirement, and are very important ingredient in blending of super quality lube oil which can be applied in very wide ranges.

A relatively complete laboratory examination of the properties of a complex calcium soap grease has been made. The complex calcium soap used as the grease thickener is composed of calcium stearate and calcium acetate, while a low pour point lubricating oil is used as base oil.
