It is used in "evaluatin human exposure to whole-body vibration" and other related international standards for evaluating human vibration.It is necessary to know vibration levels in 1/3 octave bands and exposure time in evaluating human vibration when a(rms) is used. Recently, a concept of vibration dose value (VDV) was suggested to evaluate human vibration.Mathematically, the magnitude of VDV depends on the nature of vibrational signals and other factors. First of all, VDV and a (rms) must be compared in magnitude by using different vibrations. ISO 2631/1, in which a(rms) is used, concerns vibration only with crest factors less than 6. In general, impulsive vibrations have higher crest factors. In this paper VDV was compared with a(rms) using examples of impulsive vibration. The weighting curve of ISO 2631/1 (whole-body vibration in zaxis) was cited and simulated impulsive vibrations were used in the experiment. The vibration signals in different pulse durations, cycle times and levels were weighted with the curve.The experiment showed that VDV was more sensitive to impulsive vibration, especially to those whose crest factors were more than 6, and possessed a larger changing range.

?One third frequency band separated evaluation", "Weighted value summation evaluation" and "One half weighted value summation evaluation"are the three current methods commonly used for evaluating motor vehicle ride vibration. The article briefly discourses the three methods and analyses with practical examples the differences and limitations of application among them. Also it put forward suggestion as how to evaluate motor vehicle ride vibration.
