    The Solidification characteristics, associated defects and the thick-effiect of ZA27 alloy in a permanent mould casting, Which is one of the primary casting processes of the alloy, have been expcrimcntly investigated in this paper The results show that the alloy freczes in the permanent mould by a paste mode, the casting is liable to shrinkage porosity and gravitational macrosegregation, and the mechanical properties are considerably sensitive to the thickness of the casting.
