Method:Ten cases of NHL in amygdala from 1980-1995 were analysed,among them,one had I EA lesion,two had I EB lesions,three had Ⅱ EA lesions,four had Ⅱ EB lesions,eight cases received amygdalotomy and one received chemotherapy treatment,nine received combined modality therapy.
Patients with grade 4 or 5 SEPs were found to have severe brain oedema giving rise to transtentorial herniation, which was combined with secondary midbrain haemorrhage and tonsillar herniation in all patients with bilateral grade-5 SEPs.
Tonsillar depression of at least 3 mm occurred in 13 % of both the patient group and the control group.
Tonsillar herniation was not found to influence supine or upright blood pressure, heart rate or plasma norepinephrine levels in the patients.
However, the single measurement of tonsillar depression might underestimate the number of patients with hindbrain compression.
