This paper proposes an approximate formula for calculating maximum loads during forging bevel gear at its final deformation stage. The formula was derived in detail by upper-bound method with continuous velocity field whose division model was developed by a Japanese scholar. The loads calculated from the formula are slightly higher than those from actually measured in experiment, however, it may be useful in selecting forging machine and die design.
