N-mesh and n-torns are very popular topologies used in modern distributed memory multicomputers. The mean minimal path length of a network is a key feature of its performance. This paper gives an exact definition of the mean minimal path length of a network,and exact formulas computing the mean minimal path length of n-mesh and n-torns.

维mesh网络和n维torus网络是分布存储多机系统中最常用的拓扑结构.网络的平均最短路径长度是网络性能的重要指标.研究寻径算法的性能必须精确地计算网络的平均最短路径长度,以评价寻径算法所选择的路径的平均值是否接近网络性能的极限.以往有关n维mesh网络和n维torus网络的一些研究[1,4,7,8]对平均最短路径长度定义还不够严格,计算也是近似的.本文给出n维mesh网络和n维torus网络的平均最短路径长度的严格定义和精确公式,以及对以往所给出的公式的误差分析.

Increasing complexity of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) makes it quite necessary to design a CFD-oriented MPP (Massive Parallel Processing) system. In section 2, we analyzed the characteristics of flow field computation, discussed CFD-oriented MPP interconnection network, and then reached the conclusion that the interconnection network should emphasize low block ratio rather than high speed. In section 2, we analyzed the characteristics of flow field computation, discussed CFD-oriented MPP interconnection network, and then reached the conclusion that the interconnection network should emphasize low block ratio rather than high speed. The reasons for this conclusion are: (1) we find that 1MB/s is ample; (2) increasing block ratio worsens the parallel propetry of CFD computation. In section 3, we discussed CCOTS (Commercial Commodity Off-The-Shelf) technique as related to the design of CFD-oriented MPP system, then reached the conclusion that CCOTS, as compared with other techniques, is to be preferred in our design. The reasons for this conclusion are: (1) CCOTS can improve the MPP system's usability and reliability; (2) it can shorten the system's development cycle; (3) it can prolong the system's life cycle. These two conclusions were of much help in the design of what we call PAR2000 MPP system.
